Registration is now open for VidUKon 2025! Join us 30 May to 1 June for vidshows, panels and socialising.


More details over the next few days, but tldr: in-person attendance this year is £50, (£56 with add-ons); virtual attendance is £20 (£26 with add-ons). (See more details about add-ons here.)


If you’ve attended in the past, you might have noticed that virtual attendance (website and Discord) costs about the same as last year while in-person attendance is significantly less expensive. This is because we will not have catering at the in-person con in 2025 as our new location in Bristol is near a lot of food options.

Sponsorship tier

You may have spotted there's a new tier to sponsor an additional attendee. The purpose of this tier is twofold: contributing to our scholarship fund or sponsoring a friend.


VidUKon has a small pot built up, so a couple of fee waivers are possible for those who would like to attend the con but who are unable to afford the membership cost. If you'd like to contribute to this fund, you can do so through this tier. If you'd like to attend the con but are unable to afford the membership cost, please get in touch with us at vidukon@gmail.com to find out more about this. (You do not need to disclose anything about your personal circumstances in order to qualify).


Equally, if folks would like to pay registration for friends, they can do so using this tier. Just flag it to the con email so that we can double-check details and register the extra attendees.


Electronic travel authorisation

Lastly, please be aware that attendees travelling into the UK (who are not British or Irish citizens) will need to apply for electronic travel authorisation beforehand. This is a new requirement and applies to travellers who likely did not need any prior authorisation to enter the UK before 2025. If you needed a visa for previous visits, you likely still do.

Registration is now open for VidUKon 2024! More details coming soon, but we wanted to flag something that past attendees might notice -- attendance prices for both the in-person and virtual con have gone up again. This is for two main reasons: first, hotel fees have risen dramatically in the last few years. VidUKon had a surplus which, along with a modest increase in in-person attendance fees, helped offset hotel fee increases in 2023, but we've now spent that surplus and need to raise attendance prices further in order to cover hotel costs. The second reason is the cost of maintaining Conline, which costs £40 per month. This second reason is why online attendance fees have also increased. As with hotel fees, Conline costs were previously offset by the surplus we accumulated when the con was fully virtual, but now needs to be covered by attendance fees.

With the con just three months away, we’re preparing for a weekend jam-packed with vids, panels, activities and socialising! The full schedule will be released closer to the con, but we can now share some news about what you can expect to find in it.

A major update - this year we’re trying something new with the group vidding workshop! The workshop is a big part of the VidUKon experience, but our new hybrid format presents some additional challenges compared to a fully offline or fully online workshop.

So this year, we’re taking the workshop back online, moving it to a pre-con challenge with a longer timeframe, and making some other changes that we hope will retain the chaotic spirit of the workshop while making both running it and participating in it a bit simpler. Watch this space for more detail soon.

And finally, we’ve chosen a theme for this year’s vidder-submitted themed show! The theme is Antagonism. Whether it’s nemeses, enemies to lovers, villains or feuds, we want your vids all about hostility, rivalry, contention and opposition.

More details coming soon on exactly how to submit. The deadline will be May 6. Premieres are particularly encouraged but back-catalogue vids are very welcome too.

We still have a few spaces for in-person attendance at VidUKon in Cardiff, Wales! The deadline for in-person registration is May 7, so if you haven't registered but would still like to attend, please register ASAP. Attendance this year is capped at 30.

We are excited to announce that registration for VidUKon 2022 is officially open!

You can register as attending in-person (£55) or for the virtual (£15) VidUKon. Like the last two years, Virtual VidUKon will have full vidshows on ConLine with Discord chat and access to panels, and at least one member of ConCom will be attending virtually. Anyone who registers for the in-person con can also access the virtual con, e.g. from their hotel room. We are fully committed to making this a hybrid event.

A bit more info -- please read this before registering.

  • Here are our COVID-19 policy, our harassment policy, and our FAQ
  • Please note that as part of our COVID policy, we have a in-person cap of 30 attendees, which until recently was the upper limit permitted by Wales. If permitted and requested we might raise this cap to 35, but no higher. For reference, pre-pandemic we usually had around 30 in-person attendees (31 in 2019).
  • The deadline for in-person registration is 7 May.
  • We are seeking volunteer moderators for the virtual con. Mods will have their virtual registration fee waived. If you are interested in modding, please hold off on registering and get in touch with us by emailing vidukon@gmail.com. If you've already registered but would like to mod, please let us know.
  • Registration includes the option to express interest in joining the quiz and the vidding workshop. This is not binding, and if you like you will have the option of requesting teammates on the vidding workshop later on.
  • Payment is included in registration -- if you don't get a payment page then it could be your adblocker.
  • In-person attendees will be able to reserve rooms at the Futures Inn hotel in Cardiff (the usual venue) at a reduced rate -- watch this space.

Registration is now open for VidUKon 2021!

Join us for vidshows, panels, workshops and socialising!


VidUKon 2021 is taking place entirely online, on the weekend of 11-13 June. Programming will begin on Friday afternoon UK time (BST), and run until Sunday evening. Attendees in other timezones will have the opportunity to watch in BST or shift the schedule into their own timezone.


Registration costs £10, and we have a number of online scholarships available - if you would like to attend the con but you are unable to afford the membership cost, please get in touch with us at vidukon@gmail.com to find out more about this. (You do not need to disclose anything about your personal circumstances in order to qualify for an online scholarship.)

The VidUKon convention committee are delighted to announce that VidUKon will be returning to Cardiff again. VidUKon 2015 is officially scheduled to take place on the 12th-15th of June in Cardiff Bay.

One of the things we confirmed at VidUKon 2014 is that we're attempting to try and set a quasi-static date for VidUKon for future years rather than polling each year, and the general agreement was that around the same dates as VidUKon 2014 would be a good date. Unfortunately, we encountered clashes with too many other events during the two-week window that was discussed, so we've had to make VidUKon 2015 a little earlier than we'd hoped. I'm not sure exactly what the Speedway is, but it certainly has a dramatic effect on hotel prices. However, this year we're opening registration earlier than usual to give everyone a chance to register early and book VidUKon into your diaries - we'll miss you terribly if you don't come along!

Registration is open now! We've managed to keep ticket prices at the same cost for another year: an Attending Registration is £40 initially and Non-Attending Registration for those who want to support the con but can't attend is £16. Anyone who purchases a Non-Attending Registration will receive a copy of the Premieres DVD and the con programme after the event, as well as access to our streaming convention, VirtUKon, while VidUKon 2015 is happening.

Please note: On April 10th the cost of an Attending Registration increases to £52. Registration will officially close on May 15th.

Registration will initially only be open for tickets. We are investigating options for the traditional Saturday night dinner, but it's rather too early to confirm prices and venues. Don't worry, though; details of the dinner will be confirmed in January, and anyone who has already purchased an Attending Membership will be contacted with details of the cunning plan and the option to buy dinner tickets.

Hotel Details:

The con hotel is Future Inns in Cardiff Bay . More details about room rates, facilities and so on can be found at the Vidukon website.

We've been able to reserve a block of rooms - to book one of these, mention that you're attending the VidUKon convention when you book. This option is available until April 12th, at which point any unbooked rooms will be released back to general booking. All of the hotel details are available on the con website here; if you're looking for roommates, the forum for VidUKon 2015 has been opened up on the website as well.

Accessibility:

There are wheelchair-accessible rooms available at the hotel, and step-free access to the con rooms.

Programming:

A post will go up in January 2015 for people to discuss and brainstorm ideas for what vidshows and panels they'd like to see at the con. Programming is reliant on the efforts of attendees, so if you have an idea for something you'd like to organise, let us know on the forum. If you'd like to see some of the shows and panels from previous years, please feel free to investigate the VirtUKon area of the VidUKon website - all of the details from our last four conventions are available there.

If you can't attend but would like to put something together, let us know too! We'll give priority to registered attendees but it's certainly possible to put together a vid show remotely, and if anyone wants to Skype in a panel or something, that could be awesome.

There'll be a Premieres vid show on Saturday for brand new vids. If you'd like to submit a vid to that, whether you're attending or not, please do! The deadline to do so is April 10th. More detailed information about vid submission will be available from January.

Prices for registrations are going up this sunday (to be exact, at midnight between sunday and monday). On Monday, it will be 52£ for an attending membership. So if you were waiting to register, this week end is a good time to do it. :-)

Registrations will however remain open till April 14th, and supporting membership's prices remain the same.

Vidukon will be taking place on the 18th and 19th of May in Cardiff.

Attending Registration is £40.

Additional registration options:

+ Saturday night dinner - this year at the hotel restaurant, a carvery buffet with vegetarian options.
+ a 'plus one' ticket for the Saturday night that includes dinner and the Premieres show
+ a spot at the Vid Bazaar for anyone who would like to sell relevant items eg a DVD of their vids.

Non-attending registration is £16 for anyone who is unable to make it but would like to support the con. You will receive a copy of the premieres DVD and the con programme after the event.
