Programming suggestions for VidUKon 2023 are now open! We will be accepting submissions until February 25th 2023.

Please submit your content suggestions, whether for shows, panels, or something else, in this handy dandy google form. Most fields are not mandatory, so if you only have a vid show idea but not a panel or vice versa, that’s fine. Multiple ideas, if you have them, are encouraged, but please be advised that in the (very likely) event of more programming than hours in the con weekend, we will probably only accept one programming item per person. (We do ask that if you have multiple ideas, please submit them individually, just to make our lives a bit easier.)

We’re looking for your ideas for vid shows and panels you’d like to run, and if you have an idea for something new that’s not quite either of those things, we’d love to hear that too.

As ever, we welcome programming ideas from first-time VJs and panellists as well as from veterans - if you’d like to give it a try but you’re not sure where to start, please get in touch! We’re happy to chat it through with you. You’re also very welcome to VJ as a pair or a group.

As the con has grown, so has the number of programming submissions. In the likely event that we have too many programme items to choose from, we will emphasise items that form a coherent and complementary programme, as well as trying to give new VJs and panellists a chance to shine.

We will endeavour to let submitters know whether their item has been selected as soon as possible after the deadline, to allow plenty of time to prepare.

Premieres

As usual, we are seeking brand new, never-before-seen vids for our Saturday night Premieres show.

Anyone with a VidUKon 2023 membership, whether online or Cardiff, can submit a vid. Vids can be any fandom, theme, or style, and there is no minimum level of experience required.

The only requirement is that the vid be completely new, showing for the first time at the con. This means that once you submit it to us, you cannot release it online or show it at any other convention until after the Premieres show on Saturday night of the con. After that you can release the vid as usual. We also ask for one vid for Premieres per vidder.

The deadline for Premieres submissions is May 6th. More information on submitting your vid will be provided nearer the time.

Themed Submission Vidshow

Following the success of last year’s themed submission vidshow, Blorbo From My Show, we’re doing another one! Premieres are encouraged but vids from your back catalogue are welcome.

The theme for this year is yet to be chosen - the concom will be making a decision shortly, but in the meantime we welcome suggestions from the floor! Please comment on this post if you have an idea for a theme.

Vidders Choice

Vidders with a VIdUKon 2023 membership can also submit one of their back-catalogue vids for the Vidder’s Choice show, as in previous years. The deadline for Vidder’s Choice is May 1st, so start having a think about which of your vids you’d like to show off this year!

We had it as a curated show fairly recently, so it might be too soon, but I was wondering if recruiter vids might be fun for a themed submission show? (You could call it "It's a traaaaaaaaaaap")

A drive-by comment to drop some love for the Admiral Ackbar reference.

Just curious, is it ok if the vid you submit to vidder's choice is also technically a premiere rather than back catalog? Or does it have to be something you've already posted elsewhere?

Vidder's Choice should be back catalogue; it's intended as a show that allows vidders to show vids that they haven't yet had the chance to show at a con, or an old favorite they'd like to put in the limelight for an evening.

I'm vaguely interested in some sort of "Movies directed by women" vidshow, but haven't had the capacity with festivids and womansplace right now to put the idea together very well.
I feel that some of the richness and diversity (overall, not just gender) of material in the past several years can be attributed to the rise in women behind the camera. IDK, maybe it's more of a panel?

You know, amongst the feedback I think we've had pretty much every year is "more panels, please!" and given that what we can put on by way of panels is entirely dependent on what people suggest and submit...

Just piping up to say that I think a vidshow OR a panel on this topic would be awesome!

Yay! :)

ETA: would you be interested in partnering with me if we did some sort of hybrid vids with panel thing?

I'm going to be joining virtually from the States, so not sure how nicely that would play with participating in a panel, but I'd be happy to help with planning/vid finding/whatever else makes sense.

I'll be a virtual attendee this year as well. So maybe it'd work out well that way - who knows :)

Where do we submit premieres and vidder's choice?

Vid submissions will be via Conline, but submissions aren't open yet - vid submissions won't open until closer to the con. There should be updates on the mailing list/twitter/DW/tumblr when submissions go live, but there isn't an exact date for that yet.

Can online attendees submit a vidshow idea or do you need people who are able to VJ in person?

Online attendees can absolutely submit vidshow ideas. There's no requirement to be a physical attendee if you're VJing a show.
