The deadlines approching, we thought it was a good time to clarify or restate the vid format we need your vids to be in :-)
So here you go.
Vid Format for Vid Submission
Regular shows
Beginning with Vidukon 2013, we're starting something new... we're hoping this will simplify things a lot for vidders and VJs, we will play all vids for regular shows (all but premieres) out of VLC or similar player, not DVDs. That means we only need a as HQ as possible vid for your submissions to regular shows. Most format will do (.avis, .mp4,.mkv, .wmv etc). If you're unsure about the vid format, let us know, we'll do our best to reply. This is new to us too, but we're hoping this will work and simplify things.
So if you're VJing a show or if you have been requested a vid for one of our show:
Please note that obviously the best quality, the better. Though there's no strict restriction on that, note the vids will still play on a
big screen and if the quality is too poor, it might be blurry/not pretty. But on the other hand, please avoid submitting 4Gb uncompressed version of you vids ;-), so try to remain under 200Mb (If vid is above, let us know, it's not a deal breaker either.)
Premieres
However, Premieres vids still have to be submitted in a ready-for-DVD format, since we're making DVDs for every member of the con. So, bare with us, Premieres vids must be submitted in the following format (if you're
familiar with VVC, it's the same):
- MPEG-2 (.m2v) and the audio encoded as a separate wave (.wav) 48 kHz
- 720x480 resolution
- NTSC format, 29.97 framerate
- 5500-6500 kpbs bitrate (NOT higher)
- 4:3 (if vid isn't 4:3, it has to be letter boxed to show in 4:3 fine)
(You can also use the great LlamaEnc2 software to encode your vid, which gets you this exact output.)
Upload
Vids for shows and Premieres will be submitted through our website. Upload should be available around March 6th for both and will remain open till the deadlines mentionned. We will inform you when this is available with a follow up post and detailed instructions.
VJs are in charge of submitting vids for their shows (after "collecting" from vidders) in a specific vidshow section. They can also rely on vidders to upload their vids once they've provided them with specific upload information. Vids can either be actual uploads through FTP, or they can be links (permanent ones, please). [detail info on this process in our FAQ]
Vidders submit vids for the Premieres show through the regular Upload section.
This is just a reminder.
Premieres will have to be submitted by March, 31st
VJs, vid shows have to be submitted by March, 15st
Please note that our website has all this info, and you can consult our FAQ and deadline info at any time.

Date: 2013-02-10 10:57 pm (UTC)Last time we DID include "also premiering" vids, and I think we will do this again, unless this is a matter of not enough space on the DVD (but I doubt that will happen).
So to answer your question, yes, in both format in that case... which kinda defeits the purpose, so I'll let our techy person jump in and confirm this is the best option.

Hi Isagel,
I'm the techy person for Vidukon this time (although Beccatoria is doing a lot of the hard work, because she's awesome that way) so Buffyann pinged me to followup her comment below.
At the moment, yes, we will need those vids that are premiering but which are not a part of the Premieres vidshow in both a playlist format and a DVD format. They'll definitely be included by default on the Premieres DVD that's going out to all of our attending and non-attending members, so we need them in the Premieres format for that.
The shows themselves have much looser requirements for vid formats because we want to make it as easy as possible for VJers and panelists to submit vids and to leave it for Becka and me to worry about getting them all in a consistent format for playing.
At the moment, the default option is that we'll be playlisting them from a PC running either Windows or Linux, but depending on the formats in which the various vids arrive, we may be able to move over to a DVD-based show for some of the shows. We can't second-guess what format the vids are going to arrive in though, and trying to get them all from the outset in a DVD-playable format was a huge problem for the last con because of the number of encoding problems and the resulting resubmissions needed.
So, unfortunately, while it does mean that those premiering vids outside of the Premieres show will need to submit in two different formats - one of which might prove to be redundant - it's the option that makes life easiest for getting the non-Premieres shows put together.
I hope that helps :) Or at least, isn't completely confusing and annoying ;)
