Programming suggestions for VidUKon 2024 are now open! We will be accepting submissions until February 23rd 2024.
This year we are trying out some changes to how programming submissions work. In the past, if you suggested a panel or vidshow, then you would also be in charge of running the panel or VJ-ing the show. This year, for panels, you can alternatively offer to be responsible for finding someone else to run the panel, so if you like a panel idea but the idea of speaking in front of groups is unappealing, you can run the panel behind the scenes and find someone else to present it. Or you can even just offer the panel idea as a suggestion with no commitment from you, and if concom decide to take it on then we will find someone to run it. Due to concom time being pretty limited, we will very likely only do this if the suggestion is conducive to a moderated discussion style of panel, rather than a presentation. Keep in mind that these new avenues for suggesting panels mean that you, the suggester, have considerably less control over what actually happens in the panel than if you present it yourself.
Please submit your content suggestions, whether for shows, panels, or something else, in this google form. Most fields are not mandatory, so if you only have a vid show idea but not a panel or vice versa, that’s fine. Multiple ideas, if you have them, are encouraged, but please submit them individually, just to make our lives a bit easier.
If you have an idea for something new that’s not quite a vidshow or panel, we’d love to hear that too.
As ever, we welcome programming ideas from first-time VJs and panellists as well as from veterans - if you’d like to give it a try but you’re not sure where to start, please get in touch! We’re happy to chat it through with you. You’re also very welcome to VJ as a pair or a group.
As the con has grown, so has the number of programming submissions. In the likely event that we have too many programme items to choose from, we will emphasise items that form a coherent and complementary programme, as well as trying to give new VJs and panellists a chance to shine.
We will endeavour to let submitters know whether their item has been selected as soon as possible after the deadline, to allow plenty of time to prepare.
Vid submission deadlines
We will have our three usual vidshows that VidUKon attendees can submit a vid to. You can submit up to one vid to each of these shows. The shows are Vidder’s Choice (a vid from your back catalogue), Premieres (a never before shown vid), and a show of vids fitting a specific theme. This year, the themed vidshow will be premieres-only, and we will announce the theme soon. We haven’t decided the theme yet, and welcome suggestions in the comments on this post! More information is coming soon, but the deadline for Vidder’s Choice is April 1st, and the deadline for Premieres and the themed show is May 6. Please note that vid submissions are not yet open, we will post when they are.
